Ok I guess I’ll jump on the bandwagon (Gail posted about it, Neesa just emailed me about it) and mention that today is indeed 08/08/08.

The Beijing Olympics began at 8:08 p.m. local time, on the eighth day, of the eighth month, of the year 2008. This was no coincidence.

For those not aware, the number ‘8′ signifies good fortune in Chinese tradition.

A quick google search returned the following:

- CNBC - China’s Craze for 08-08-08
- #080808 Twitter Campaign For Beijing Olympics
- Hundreds plan to wed on 08/08/08 — the ultimate ‘lucky day’

I’m heading to NYC tonight so I guess I picked a lucky day to go. This was not intentional though maybe it was fate *X-files music*! Hmm, maybe I’ll have some good fortune on my trip!

I spent the better part of yesterday and today finalising a 3-day itinerary for the trip, and I keep finding more stuff that I’d like to see. A follow-up trip is definitely required I think.

Oh and in true Couchsurfing fashion (check out this article in yesterday’s Toronto Star), I’ll be surfing with a host in Brooklyn! Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy finding a host! After thirty or more requests and a sense of panic beginning to come over me just last weekend we finally receive a positive response. It didn’t help that the week long NY Couch Crash festival is on next week that’s for sure, but if you’re in the area make sure you check out some of the events.

NYC here I come!
