Mahal Kita
So after some discussion last night with some friends on how to say “I love you” in Filipino, odd because nobody present was actually from the Philippines, I decided to do some lengthy research on how to say “I love you” in the various languages that we represented. Here’s what I found…
Lao : Khoi huk chau – phonetically correct I suppose. (I couldn’t find a good Lao song but how about a Thai one with a Mandarin chorus? This is Wor Ai Ni, which means “I Love You” in Mandarin, sung by the China Dolls – a Thai girl band and was the theme song for Thai Airways for a while)
Nepalese: ma timilai maya garchhu (ma timi-lai maya gar-chhu) [check this out! I could *totally* see Neesa in this video hahaha!]
Persian : Tora dost daram (Our friend K1 absolutely needs to do one of these videos! )
Pilipino : Mahal Kita (Here’s a great song from a famous Pilipino singer and here is the translation of the lyrics into English)
Russian: Ya tyebya lyublyu (techno stylez! / ballad stylez)
Uzbek: Men sizni sevema (yeh couldn’t find a video for it)
I found most of these on this site. I’m waiting for my friends to confirm if they are correct. Until then, feel free to practise!
