Get your bike, helmet, and lights ready!

Critical Mass… hundreds of people on bicycles, and not just bicycles, hit the street of Toronto on the last Friday of every month to stop traffic and promote a greener, healthier mode of transport. It’s not just about that though. It’s also a community, a social event, and a fun time.

So yesterday, after months of wanting to join the ride but not being able to because something always came up (actually I went but missed it by 15 minutes last month), I finally made it to Critical Mass and it was awesome!

At first the pace was a little slow for me but I quickly understood why. That many people travelling down busy streets at fast pace? BAD IDEA. Besides, it was all about enjoying the wonderful city and getting to know other riders.

Big thanks to Stef for the great chat and saving my butt when I had to get my back tire replaced in Kensington market 20 mins before the start! (thankfully I caught up!)

I’ll have to get a front light now because when the cops were starting to pull people over for not having the lights and booking them that was a bit scary! haha

I loved the dude playing his trumpet with one hand whilst riding his bike. So awesome!

Despite the looming rain clouds the whole time we managed to survive without a single drop of rain.

What a great first CM ride for me, and seeing other Couch Surfers there made it that much more special… woohoo!

Regular readers of this blog will notice the new theme. I’m testing the Prosense Blue theme created by Dosh Dosh. I’m also learning about how to generate income through Adsense and search engine optimization. It looks like I have a lot to learn.

Some immediate observations:

1) I installed prosense blue which was a very easy install (upload and activate). Great theme. Very neat and somebody who saw the layout commented on how well the ads integrate.

2) The ads showing are not related to the content of the posts. Does anybody have any suggestions for fixing this?

3) I need to learn about channels and how to use them.

I’ll post updates as I learn more about this stuff.

What a beautiful day…

Yoga On The Beach

I discovered a few days ago, through Craigslist of all places, that every Sunday there is a free yoga class being held five minutes from my place. The best thing about it (apart from the price) is that it’s held under a roof right with a view facing the sand and water. It was brilliant. I also found this class a little more challenging than the Yoga in the Park (Trinity-Bellwoods) event that I attended last weekend with Neesa.

More info:

Eiffel explosion of stars

This is just fantastically done. I just had to share it.

Some trivia for you…

French state nuclear company Areva sponsored a ring of golden European Union stars for the Eiffel Tower, to mark France’s term as EU president. On July 13th 2008 Greenpeace placed a nuclear hazard symbol on the tower to signal an anti-nuclear protest. More info and picture here.
