A while ago my girlfriend gave me a book as a gift. The book was StrengthsFinder 2.0 by Tom Rath. Included with the book was a unique access code that would allow me to use the SF2 online quiz tool to determine my strengths.

Here are my results:

Your Top 5 Themes

* Futuristic
* Arranger
* Connectedness
* Focus
* Positivity

There is a comprehensive report and certificate provided by the tool however I’ll just give a brief description here of each theme.

Futuristic

People who are especially talented in the Futuristic theme are inspired by the future and what could be. They inspire others with their visions of the future.

Arranger

Can organize, but they also have a flexibility that complements this ability. They like to figure out how all of the pieces and resources can be arranged for maximum productivity.

Connectedness

Have faith in the links between all things. They believe there are few coincidences and that almost every event has a reason.

Focus

Can take a direction, follow through, and make the corrections necessary to stay on track. They prioritize, then act.

Positivity

Have an enthusiasm that is contagious. They are upbeat and can get others excited about what they are going to do.

The results were pretty spot on, and the action ideas list provided with actions for working to each strength is really useful.

Like most personality-type quizzes it’s important that we don’t view them as the be-all and end-all of our identity and realise that who we are is a whole lot more complex and wonderful than any person or test could ever dictate. I enjoy doing these things mainly because they highlight certain things to me and allow me to evaluate what’s working for me and what might not be. From there I can seek to improve, adjust or accept accordingly.

It’s also great if your (life, business, other) partner does the same quiz so that you could compare results and better understand each others’ drivers. That will help with communication and understanding why each person does the things that they do the way that they do it.

Anyways if you’re interested in doing this test grab a copy of the book (with access code) and go from there. My girlfriend’s company actually had all their staff do the test in an effort to identify each individuals’ strengths and (hopefully) align them to the company’s vision/strategy. Not a bad idea… I wonder how successful the program was for the organisation.
