I’ve been meaning to visit the Toronto Public Library here at The Beaches for a while now. I’ve been walking past it nearly every day since I moved here. So last Wednesday I finally made my way to the library and made myself a member.

With new library card in hand I made my way to the first floor and man I felt like I was a kid in the school library again.

I had that overwhelming feeling of being surrounded by immense knowledge, like if I were able to read even two percent of the books on those shelves in my lifetime I’d be that much more intelligent. It was exciting!

The thing that I admire about the Toronto public library system is how advanced it is compared to the Fairfield City public library system back home in Sydney. With its 99 branches and 11 million items for borrowing, the Toronto public library is gigantic!

That day I walked out with Chicken Soup for the Soul (the original paperback) by Jack Hansen (who featured on The Secret) and Mark Victor Hansen. The book is a wonderful collection of heartwarming stories. I’m only a few pages through it but I can comfortably say that it’s worth a read.

Another benefit of a library so large as this is the technological advances that it has over smaller libraries. I was able to request a book through the catalogue at the branch and then get notified via email when I could go pick it up. I am also able to log in to my account online at any time to see what I’ve got oustanding and/or have requested. How cool is that?

So I received an email notification on Saturday to advise that The law of attraction : the basics of the teachings of Abraham / Esther and Jerry Hicks was oh hold at the branch and ready for pickup, so I took the opportunity today to swing by the library last night, pick up the book and take a few pictures while I was there. I had to be all discreet with the DSLR because I didn’t want to disturb the peace. Thank goodness the Canon EOS 400D is pretty quiet as it is.
