To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one’s family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one’s own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him.
– Buddha

Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.
– Buddha

Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it.
– Buddha

The mind is everything. What you think you become.
– Buddha

Knowing others is wisdom; Knowing the self is enlightenment; Mastering others requires force; Mastering the self needs strength.
– Lao Tzu

If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading.
– Lao Tzu

When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.
– Lao Tzu

No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.
– Albert Einstein

The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive.
– Albert Einstein

Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water
– Zen proverb

The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.
– Mahatma Gandhi

Men often become what they believe themselves to be. If I believe I cannot do something, it makes me incapable of doing it. But when I believe I can, then I acquire the ability to do it even if I didn’t have it in the beginning.
– Mahatma Gandhi quote

For anyone who missed the first Oprah ‘Secret’ show refer to this post on Trader Mike’s site for links to the 5-part video. There’s also a couple links to the Larry King law of attraction shows.

I actually got a lot more out of watching the follow up Oprah shows, as the discussions delved a bit deeper than on the introductory show. You can view them here:

Rather than post a long comment, I decided that I’d respond to Wade’s observation in a separate post. So here goes…

Interesting observation Wade. Are you making that comment based on the resources that I post?

My reason for wanting to improve my financial situation (and seek financial freedom) is to allow me to not worry so much about money, and free up my time and effort to allow me to pursue other interests and areas in my life. The way I see it there is nothing wrong with being financially well off. We are deserving of abundance and part of that is money. Of course I completely agree that the pursuit of happiness through financial wealth only is potentially destructive and will in fact lead to unhappiness, because life is not about money. That is not my only focus.

Wealth creation is but only one area in my life that I’m focusing on. You’ve probably also noticed that I’ve taken up martial arts again - and the focus there is mental and physical health. My affirmations are not all wealth related. I wrote of the 5 key areas of harmonic wealth previously and I intend on focusing on each one of them.

One step at a time. As long as I’m focusing on some level of self improvement then I consider that better than being complacent and stuck in my comfort zone (not moving forward) . Would you not agree?

Incidentally I’m volunteering for Starlight this upcoming Sat which I’m very excited about. I’m also currently reading a book about Buddhist teachings, and the concepts are blowing me away.

I’ll post my goals soon (in response to your ping) and that should paint a better picture of where I’m headed ;)

Coming soon, A Secret-like motivational movie titled Pass It On.

The title reminds me of the movie Pay It Forward. Great movie, and the idea explored in that movie was just amazing. Oprah attempted to do something similar on her show but not everybody was happy with the resulting production.

Anyways, check out the trailer for Pass It On:

You gotta think it, you gotta feel it, and then you gotta do it.

Thanks to Resonate with Life for the heads up.

Last night I downloaded and listened to the entire three-part interview (posted on Attraction Hacker) between Oprah and Esther Hicks/Abraham. It was an elightening experience, delving into "the secret behind The Secret" as Oprah refers to it.

One key learning that I got out of the interview, or a re-affirming of a notion that was discussed in The Secret, was this:

When we activate something without resistance it comes fast. - Esther Hicks

Esther provides a powerful real life example of this idea too in the interview.

Esther and Jerry Hicks, since having appeared on the original Secret DVD and then subsequently being edited out (she explains why in the interview), have released a book The Law of Attraction: The Basics of the Teachings of Abraham (in the interview Esther credits Rhonda Byrne for orinally giving her the idea) and a DVD titled Introducing Abraham - The Secret Behind "The Secret". I think I need to get my hands on these materials ASAP, and I’d encourage anybody searching for a deeper understanding and more detailed application of the Law of Attraction to do so too.
