I have great respect for successful sales people. Having failed at selling when I worked in retail many years ago, I’m keen to develop the skill and be successful at it. Successful selling is a whole lot more than pushing something to a buyer and realising profits. It’s about quickly building relationships, identifying needs and alternatives, and most importantly it’s about mindset. According to James Ray (in the article The Secret Weapon of Sustainable Sales Success):
Creating a mindset of sustained success requires you to focus on three key areas:
- The beliefs you have about yourself;
- The attitudes you have about your customers, product, and industry;
- The ownership you take of your own success.
If we were to take those three points and apply them to life I think that they would still be relevant.
So how do we measure success? What is wealth anyway? Is it simply material gain? Can money buy happiness?
Money changes everything, because money magnifies your current state of affairs, tending to make problems (or joys) that exist in other parts of life even bigger. So money doesn’t provide fulfillment.– James Ray
So what does provide fulfillment and well-being?
James Ray calls it Harmonic Wealth. Life is about balance, and the concept of harmonic wealth suggests that there are five key areas that need to be balanced:
- Financial
- Relational
- Mental (including intellect and emotions)
- Physical
- Spiritual
Here’s a great article on Harmonic Wealth.
In order to achieve harmonic wealth one must set intentions and goals in each of the five key areas. Realise that all goals are spiritual and then begin the process of realignment.
The key to balancing your desire to be at peace with your need to achieve, perform, and earn a living is in recognizing that there’s no such thing as stress; there are only people thinking stressful thoughts. It’s really as simple as that. When you change the way you process the world, the world you’re processing changes. — Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
Additionally, don’t forget to invite abundance into your life by sharing that abundance with others and be grateful for what you already have.
