I had a whole post in the works that involved an investigation into the continuing fall and fall of NSW’s CityRail network but I lost it during my host switch so meh. Maybe when I could be bothered after my short trip to the Gold Coast.

I actually took the above photo at the station opposite my workplace last december. I was on my way to a dinner with mates after work that day. The train that I was supposed to catch didn’t come, and then this huge ass tree fell onto the track. The worst thing was that the attendant didn’t make any announcement, so people were standing around wondering “wtf!”.

He didn’t communicate to central control, or whoever, to switch the incoming train onto another track. Idiot. So then the train pulls up behind the tree 15 mins later, and is stuck there for who knows how long. I had already called a friend and was picked up and on my way by then.

At no point throughout the entire ordeal did CityRail make an announcement, or provide any updates or ETAs to the passengers and commuters. Worst display of customer service that I’d witnessed in a long time.

Served me right for thinking that it’d be quicker and more convenient going by train. the train into work in the morning was delayed also.
